AI Artificial Intelligence – In the near future, scientist Hurt and his team create a very advanced android kid who might undergo feelings, containing love. His adoption by a nice couple who have lost a child is riddled with problems. This beguiling story draws us in, thanks in part to Osment’s magnificent performance. Faces – Very personal drama in regards to many infidelities is one of the few Cassel movies to become a big hit. Here is a strong film with awe-inspiring action, particularly by Carlin and Cassel. Cast includes John Marley, Gena Rowlands, Lynn Carlin, Seymour Cassel, Fred Draper, and Val Avery.
Sugar Town – Enjoyable mosaic of LA life characterizing a handful of characters whose lives dovetail – a musician aspirant who will do anything to get ahead, an uptight lone woman who allures the inappropriate men like a magnet, and a band made up of cleaned-up ’80s rock stars, to name a few. Made on a shoestring, although astute and well recognized; outstanding cast contains a number of actual musicians. Cast includes Ally Sheedy, Rosanna Arquette, John Taylor, Jade Gordon, Michael Des Barres, Lucinda Jenney, and Martin Kemp.
Adam’s Apples – This film is a weird dark comedy about two very diverse men who have a fight of wills. It is a recently developed religious fanatic versus a hard core neo-Nazi villain. The battle of good versus evil is on. The main stars are Ulrich Thomsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolas Brom, and Paprika Steen. (German-Danish-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen)
The Horse Whisperer – After her daughter is dangerously hurt in a horse riding accident, her well-heeled mother takes the horse to a renowned horse whisperer in Montana. A romance between the two follows.
Fade-In – Odd little film made concurrently with Blue, in reference to love event between film editor Loden and guy she meets when performing on site. Not extremely great, however an absolute curiosity on no account discharged theatrically. Cast includes Burt Reynolds, Barbara Loden, Noam Pitlik, Patricia Casey, James Hampton, and Joseph Perry.
